Week 6: Web 2.0 FUN!

WOW is all I can say about the web 2.0 tools! The programs I used this week to create my blog were all new to me. I really enjoyed creating a glogger, animoto, and blabberize pictures. Chapter six in our text states, "The current widespread educational use of hypermedia systems appears to be fulfilling predictions that classrooms of the future will be increasingly multimedia environments"(Roblyer & Doering, 2012, p. 176). I really agree with this statement. The tools I created would be very useful in a multimedia classroom. Not only was it enjoyable for me to create these systems, I believe the students will love them too. These new systems will increase motivation in the classroom, create flexible learning modes, and develop creative and critical thinking skills (Roblyer & Doering, 2012, p. 176). Integrating these systems in a classroom will create a multimedia environment.

Chapter seven of our text discusses distance learning. As an elementary educator, I do not believe that distance learning would be in the best interest of the students. Younger children typically need more of a hands on approach in the presence of an adult. Therefore a more traditional classroom with added technology seems more appropriate for elementary students. However; distance education at the high school or college level does seem very beneficial. Overall Internet is needed now to create a beneficial learning environment for all age groups. "The Internet has made such a difference in our society that it is difficult to remember when we did not depend on it for communications, instructions, and even entertainment" (Roblyer & Doering, 2012, p.214). As an educator, I know that my students and I will use the Internet daily to enhance our education.

Chapter eight in our text discusses how to develop and use web-based activities in our classroom. "Where teachers used to focus on integrating one online activity in the classroom, today we have numerous web-based lessons, projects, and complete courses that teachers are developing and/or finding and integrating within their classroom" (Roblyer & Doering, 2012, p. 238). To me this is where education is changing so much. For me, a new teacher, it is not that hard to go with the flow of the changing technology. For my mother, a teacher for 21 the new teaching way is a big difference. Regardless if you have taught 1 year or 21 years, it is time to embrace the new teaching environment. With that being said, I have created a glogger, a blabberize, and an animoto on geological features for second grade students. These systems could be used when teaching a unit on geological features.
