Chapter seven of our text discusses distance learning. As an elementary educator, I do not believe that distance learning would be in the best interest of the students. Younger children typically need more of a hands on approach in the presence of an adult. Therefore a more traditional classroom with added technology seems more appropriate for elementary students. However; distance education at the high school or college level does seem very beneficial. Overall Internet is needed now to create a beneficial learning environment for all age groups. "The Internet has made such a difference in our society that it is difficult to remember when we did not depend on it for communications, instructions, and even entertainment" (Roblyer & Doering, 2012, p.214). As an educator, I know that my students and I will use the Internet daily to enhance our education.
Chapter eight in our text discusses how to develop and use web-based activities in our classroom. "Where teachers used to focus on integrating one online activity in the classroom, today we have numerous web-based lessons, projects, and complete courses that teachers are developing and/or finding and integrating within their classroom" (Roblyer & Doering, 2012, p. 238). To me this is where education is changing so much. For me, a new teacher, it is not that hard to go with the flow of the changing technology. For my mother, a teacher for 21 the new teaching way is a big difference. Regardless if you have taught 1 year or 21 years, it is time to embrace the new teaching environment. With that being said, I have created a glogger, a blabberize, and an animoto on geological features for second grade students. These systems could be used when teaching a unit on geological features.
