Week 8: Twitter!

Before this class I did not use Twitter much at all. Twitter was not a new concept to me, just a concept that I did not have much experience with. I thought that Twitter was used mostly for talking with friends or seeing what famous people were up to. Throughout this class I was able to learn how to navigate and use Twitter more effectively. I noticed that people use Twitter for all types of reasons. There are people who use it for social reasons only, people who use it for work, people who use it for religion, and people who use it for education. Although I have seen benefits from Twitter, I still personally have not used Twitter that much. However; now I feel more comfortable with Twitter and I think I could use it more often.

For this class, we were asked to follow educators or educational tweeters that we found beneficial. In my search for these educators, I used the hashtag #Education. This hashtag lead me to many different education tweeters, however; I found three tweeters to be very beneficial. First, I found +Education Week to be very beneficial. This tweeter provides teachers with the latest news about education. Second, I found +WeAreTeachers to be full of new ideas and ways to use technology in a classroom. Lastly, I found Distance Education @onlinecourse beneficial for me as a student in online education. These tweeters have been most beneficial to me because they have given me ideas and help throughout my ED505 experience.

In a 2nd grade classroom, I do not feel as though Twitter would be used that often. I may find an important link, or a video I would like to share with my students, but having the students actively engaged on Twitter in an elementary classroom seems far fetched to me. I do believe that I could use Twitter when communicating with parents. To do this, I could share important links or videos I have found or give them reminders. This could also give the parents opportunity to share with me educational things they have found. In my opinion, I do believe Twitter will be most effective to me as a teacher through professional development or collaboration with other educational tweeters.

  1. I had not had much experience with Twitter, either. I came to many of the same conclusions as you did. I could see myself using twitter as a research tool to solve educational problems. However, I do not think I will use it in my classroom to communicate with parents or students. But like you, I feel much more confident in my ability to use twitter if I ever need to. Great blog!

  4. Hello,
A scholar needs to have a great personality to see things that aren't there, things that are unique in relation to his or her existence, additionally ready to persuade the book fans that those things are accurate or generally correct.
